What is the heat pump?

In recent years, the decrease in fossil fuels and the increase in environmental damage caused an increase in our need to provide our energy from nature. We use the existing energy of nature in many fields such as energy production, cooling and heating. The heat pump is one of the systems that utilize the energy of nature itself in the heating field. So, what is the heat pump?



The heat pump is an electrically powered system based on the principle of transferring heat energy from one field to another. When the necessary conditions are met, large amounts of energy can be used at low costs.


The logic of the Heat Pump is very similar to the working principle of the refrigerator. For example, if we open the refrigerator door towards the balcony door, it will be cold outside but the interior will become hot due to the grids behind the refrigerator. As can be seen in this example, although both systems operate according to the same thermodynamic cycle, their intended use is different. The heat pump system consists of condenser, evaporator, throttle valve and compressor. In these components, which are connected to each other by capillary tubes, coolants are used as heat carriers.


As already mentioned, the heat pump is a device that transfers energy from one source to another. The energy source is air, water or soil. The heat pump cools the source from which it is energized in the heating mode and heats it when cooling. In other words, as the soil temperature is a little higher than the air temperature in winter, energy is taken from the soil and its heat is drawn and transferred to the desired environment through the system. In summer, the heat drawn from the desired environment is transferred to the soil, which is lower than the air temperature, and the soil becomes warm. The process is to take energy with the phase change of the gas and carry this energy. Some energy is spent during this transport and phase change. Although the main purpose is cooling, the heat is released as a result of the cooling process. So if you're always cooling one environment, you're heating another.



Heat pumps are examined in 3 categories according to the sources from which they take heat: Water source heat pump, soil source heat pump, air source heat pump. The source to be used in the heat pump depends on the air temperature, the geographical region to be installed, the proximity to the underwater sources and the adequacy of the installation area.



Although it is widely used today, most people still don't know what heat pumps are. However, these machines are among the most commonly used devices today. Heat pumps, which have almost the same principle as refrigerators and air conditioners, are the most efficient system especially in heating systems. According to user comments, in the houses which are heated with natural gas and coal in winter season, the cost decreased by half when using a heat pump. It is especially preferred in temperate climates because the initial installation cost of air source heat pumps is effortless and inexpensive and also has a more positive effect on the eyes of the users when a half hour of installation time is taken into consideration for a ready-made infrastructure. In addition to being efficient, being an environmentalist, using sustainable energy sources that exist in nature instead of fossil fuels and which will exist forever will take heat pumps one step further and protect nature. The heat pumps, which were first used in our country in the 1990s, still do not have the required development and widespread use in our country. The development and dissemination of heat pumps reduces the need for fossil fuels, especially in the heating field, and leads to more environmentally friendly resources. However, the amount of electrical energy needed in heat pumps can also be provided by solar and wind energy, which are also renewable sources, and the heat pumps can be turned into a 100% environmental and sustainable system. For this reason, our country has sufficient knowledge and resources. Since the government provides support and incentives in this sector, it will have a positive effect for the investor and will contribute to the development of our country.
